Chaplin

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Charlie Chaplin and it was only a matter of time before he was the subject of one of these illustrations. To be quite honest, I'm surprised I left it this long and it's only week four! I believe this shot of Chaplin on skates was part of the publicity for his 1916 short, The Rink. It happens to be one of my favourites of his short films and if you get the chance to see it in its entirety, I recommend doing so.

After the last couple of weeks, I really wanted to try push myself to do something that was impossible to do in a quick session and I'm glad I did because I'm pretty happy with the end result. If I'm proud of anything with this drawing, it's that I drew it completely freehand, no pencil beforehand, and still managed to keep the proportions pretty darn close to my reference material. As ever I still see some things wrong with it but overall I'm pretty happy with this one.
