Spotify Roulette

For the longest time I avoided Spotify like the plague. Times change as do opinions and I eventually warmed to the idea of being able to access most music at any time. I've noticed that from time-to-time, I continue to fall into the habit of listening to the same bands over and over again. Sometimes I don't mind that but occasionally I just want something new to listen to. I don't really want to go through friends playlists or search for new bands so today I started to put together a random artist playlist of my own by doing the following:

  1. Selecting a random artist (Stevie Ray Vaughan in this case)
  2. Playing the first track from the Top Hits list (Pride and Joy)
  3. When the song was done, I added the song to the playlist and selected a random artist from the Related artists suggestions (B.B King)
  4. Repeated the process for about an hour or so

In the space of that hour, I built up an eclectic mix of tracks from a whole range of artists, most of whom I'd never heard of. Sure it might take as much effort as sifting through friend's playlists but I doubt the variation would be as widespread.

I'm going to continue adding to the playlist over time so if you'd like to follow along, you can subscribe to it.
