Getting on top of things
Over the last year or so, I've been relying less and less on social media as a place where I find stuff to read. I've whittled my sources down to a few places:
- RSS with blogs I find interesting
- Pocket to "read later"
- Substack
- E-newsletters
There've been periods where I've not had enough time (or more to the point, haven't made enough time), so things started to pile up.
It can become a source of (slight) anxiety, a constant reminder of all the stuff you'd yet to go through and over the last few weeks, I've been making a conscious effort to get back on top of all this stuff.
RSS I handle pretty easily, I only subscribe to a few blogs so usually looking once a week is enough time to get through all the new posts.
Newsletters have piled up a bit but giving myself an unofficial task to read one or two a day has cleared through that backlog.
Same goes for Substack. I had posts in my inbox going back a year and I've been slowly chipping away. At the time of writing, I've just 3 articles left to read there.
Pocket is a beast that's been growing like an unruly wild garden for a while so I'll tackle that once Substack is under control.
I don't know why I'm telling you this, do you care about the current state of my reading list? I dunno, I guess I'm writing this in case you're in the same boat. Instead of letting it get you down, just get out your metaphorical lasso and wrangle the buggers into submission.
