Stealing for fun

Among the books I read last month was Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. I've been a fan of his writing for a long time so I've been aware of his Newspaper Blackout pieces and I just fancied having a go myself, just for a bit of fun.

I wasn't sure whether to post this because this isn't strictly the ethos of Steal Like an Artist, this is just stealing in terms of idea and format but it certainly was fun to take a random page from a random book and make something from it.

Kleon himself has explained this sort of idea dates back centuries so I figured he wouldn't mind me posting this.

Writing this has just brought back a memory I had completely forgotten about. When we were kids, my brother and I for a short time would take old books and use a damp finger to rub off the print of random words in books, then write in silly words to see who could come up with the funniest sounding sentence.

Innit weird how the mind works...
