What to do about social media?

For the last day or so, my feeds have been awash with very valid criticism of the inauguration and that salute. But after leaving Twitter, places like Bluesky felt like a breath of fresh air.

People were talking about other stuff again. It wasn't politics every other post.

I remember what Twitter was like 5 years ago with whats-his-face's last go around in the Oval Office. Every day there was something. Every day was greeted with a gut-wrenching feeling of "what's been done or said while I was asleep".

I don't think I can take it for another 4 years. I've been quite happily living in ignorance. Not complete ignorance, but just enough to not be haunted all day, every day by issues I have zero control over.

I'm stuck in the position of feeling like I need to be on social media to keep some kind of presence there for my art but I don't actually want to be there all that much.

Some apps have crept back onto my phone after last year's bout of digital minimalism but I think I need to go back to where I was. Remove apps from my phone. Set limits on what I can see on my laptop. Ignore what I can get away with ignoring.

The only place so far untouched by all this is Substack so maybe I just go all-in there and just focus on building an audience there.

Ugh... I dunno. I'll stop rambling now.
