Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts
I've been a fan of Foo Fighters for a long time. I was a fan of Dave Grohl even before Foo Fighters were a band. So when the news hit of Taylor Hawkins' passing last year, there was a sense that maybe the band wouldn't continue, Hawkins being just as integral to the group as each other member.
Losing Taylor from the band will inevitably change the dynamic going forward, it always does when band line-ups change, regardless of the reason, but I'm glad the remaining members have decided to continue on. So, when I started seeing promotions for a live-stream a few weeks ago, I got pretty excited to see who they've chosen to take Taylor's place and how the sound will change going forward.
As I was away at the weekend, I missed the actual live broadcast but was able to catch-up later on. I was happy to see they've chosen Josh Freese to play drums. I've been a fan of The Vandals for years so I already know what a powerhouse of a drummer he is, as well as seeing him play at the Tribute gig further cementing the idea that he'd be a good fit.
They played a number of old songs and a few new from their upcoming album and it was great to see them all clearly having fun and enjoying the experience of making music together. The last couple of albums have been a bit hot and cold for me so after hearing some of the new tracks, I'm hopeful the new album will be a bit more to my taste.
Here's to the next chapter of Foo Fighters!
